Testing and Grading

"Refurbished" means different things to different customers and vendors. To us, "Refurbished" means it is being sold in a fully working condition. This does not necessarily mean we have replaced any parts - in most cases, the devices we sell are in the same condition as when we received them - but they are meticulously tested, cleaned, buffed and polished to get them looking as good as possible. We do occasionally replace batteries, screens, back covers, frames and other components when the device falls outside of our strict grading criteria, but only using high-quality parts.

We prefer this approach as it allows us to supply a more budget friendly range with our "Excellent, "Very Good", "Good" and "Imperfect" condition devices - this would not be possible if we were restoring every device to "As New". Our cases and screen protectors also do a fantastic job at hiding these minor cosmetic flaws.

As New, Excellent, Very Good and Good will not have these flaws. If these are present on a device and are minimal, you will find these types of devices listed under our "Imperfect" grade. None of these issues will ever impair functionality of the device - if the working condition is compromised, you won't find it for sale here.

If you are a repairer, we do run regular auctions for broken devices on TradeMe.

When testing a device, we look for the following:

• Check the display for dead pixels, color accuracy, and touch sensitivity
• Test the camera and video recording capabilities
• Check the speakers and microphone for sound quality
• Test the charging port, headphone jack, and other inputs
• Run software diagnostics to check the processor, memory, and storage
• Check all buttons and sensors for proper functionality
• Look for any signs of water damage or physical damage that may affect performance
• Ensure that any iCloud/Google/Samsung or Remote Management locks are removed
• Ensure that the device is not network locked

Once a refurbished device has passed all these tests, we assign it one of our five grades (As New, Excellent, Very Good, Good, or Imperfect) based on its cosmetic condition.

All of our pre-owned device batteries are tested to ensure they hold at least 80% of the original capacity. In real terms, this may result in about an hour or so less than the originally designed capacity, but you can still expect a reasonable amount of charge. If you are experiencing issues, you can always reach out to us for advice or return the device if you are unhappy with the battery life.

All of our brand-new devices are sealed and sourced from New Zealand suppliers (i.e., no parallel imports). These devices come with 2-year manufacturer's warranty and are guaranteed to be in pristine condition, offering you the latest features and innovations straight out of the box.
